About

INTRODUCTION

The Jagrut Apang Sanghatana was established in 1981- that is considered the “International Year for the Disabled”. The Sanghatana was established by an enterprising group of a few orthopedically handicapped persons, with a desire to promote the welfare of the Handicapped as well as to help them towards their own integration into the normal stream of the community. Irrespective of their disability

GENRAL OBJECTIVES

  1. To organize the Handicapped youth throughout the state of Maharashtra.
  2. To spread information amongst them regarding the already existing Medical.

Vocational, Employment and Other Facilities are available for them in the community.

  1. To conduct suitable Residential/Vocational Training Courses for the Handicapped, especially keeping in mind the interest of the Rural Handicapped youth and those belonging to the Socio-Economically underprivileged state of society.

SHORT HISTORY OF THE RESIDENTIAL VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMMES, ORGANISED BY THE ‘SANGHATANA’ THROUGH THE “MAHATMA PHULE APANG PRASHIKSHAN KENDRA”, SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1990.

  1. At that time the “Sanghatana” did not have promises of its own for running the planned ‘Residential vocational training programs. Hence it rented a small place at Karve Road, Pune for this purpose and started two, one Year Training Courses namely, one in “Television and Radio-Audio Repairs” and other in “Cutting and Tailoring”. However due to constraint of space the “Kendra” at that time could admit only a total number of twenty candidates for both the courses per year.
  2. By June 1995, the Kendra had trained a total number of 325 candidates in the above two trades.
  3. In June 1995, the sanghatana was lucky enough to acquire a one acre plot of land of its own, at ‘Maan’, village near Pune. The sanghatana immediately got spacious premises of its own constructed with residential hostel accommodation available for 40 trainees per year.
  4. Now, every year the sanghatana admits a total 40 Handicapped trainees, on residential basis. During selection process of the trainees, preference is given to the Rural Handicapped youth usually to those who come from the socio-economically underprivileged state of society.
  5. The training as well as accommodation at the centre is available to the trainees entirely free of cost.
  6. The following statistical information regarding the trainees who have undergone training at the ‘center’ since its inception will speak for itself in terms of the success achieved by the center in relatively such a shorts span of time.
