SHORT HISTORY OF THE ORGANISATION
The present JAGRUT APANG SANGHATANA. was initially called THE MAHATMA PHULE APANG PRASHIKSHAN KENDRA.The Kendra was established in 1981, The INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE DISABLED.
The Jagrut Apang Sanghatana half a very humble beginning when a small enterprising group of young orthopedically handicapped person came together with a desire to do something constructive for other young orthopedically handicapped persons.
As their first venture they decided to start a small Vocational Training Programme in Tailoring just for a few orthopedically handicapped persons.
They thus rented small a small two-room tenement for this purpose and collected a group of ten orthopedically young persons, interested in the Training. Thus started the first Training Program of the Sanghatana.
This small experiment of theirs proved so successful that it whetted their appetite still further to do something much more constructive for the handicapped and to a much larger scale. They also desired to provide residential facilities for the trainees in view of the normal mobility problems faced by orthopedically persons.
AIMS AND OBJECTS OF THE ORGNISATION
- To expend diversity and add some more vocational facilities to the present set-up suitable for the Handicapped.
- To start Vocational Training Programmes specially suitable for the rural setting and rural needs, in view of the large number presently taking advantage of the present facilities.
- To set up a small Prosthetic and Orthotic repairs workshop, so as to enable the trainees to get the minor repairs and modifications etc. done to their appliances right on the premises itself.
- To assist the Trainees in getting their periodical medical evaluation done and if necessary, arrange for corrective surgery or modifications to their appliances etc.
- To start a hostel facilities for the handicapped ladies.
- To start an Awareness programme for the general public regarding the Environmental Barriers faced by the handicapped in relation to their access to public utility and Recreation facilities. For example at present hardly any Cinema House or Drama Theatre has a ramp or railing which could make them accessible for the handicapped.
WAYS IN WHICH TO HELP THE ORGNISATION.
- Sponsor a trainee for his/her entire training programme.
- Help the organisation by donating food grains etc. either on a monthly or yearly basis.
- Donate bedsheets, utensils etc.
- Undertake to pay Monthly electricity or telephone bill, buy necessary stationery for the organisation etc.
- Offer to give work related to tailoring etc. to the trainees.
- Undertake to construct a room in the building. The sponsors name will be given to the room.
- Give scholarship or outright sponsorship to any of the trainees.
